Nicole Blankenship has been with the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) for the past 26 years. She is currently the Director of the Division of Chapter and District Relations. In this role she directs a staff of 7 to provide management and leadership consultation to the Academy’s 59 US chapters, 7 Canadian chapters, and ten districts. Serving as the main liaison between the national office and the individual chapters, her division assures a sound, collaborative partnership between these groups. The division also empowers the leadership by providing them with the tools and resources to effectively lead their organizations, and ultimately carry out the mission of the AAP. Signature programs overseen by Nicole include the Annual Leadership Forum, Healthy People 2020 Grant Program for Chapters, district meetings, chapter block grants and chapter and district executive director educational conferences. Her division also offers technical assistance and management consultation to AAP chapters on a number of organizational, structural and governance issues as well.

Nicole received her MBA from Roosevelt University in Chicago in 1996. Her undergraduate degree is in Health Administration from Northern Illinois University (1991), and she became a Certified Association Executive (CAE) in 2008. Nicole is a member of the Association Forum of Chicagoland, the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE), and the American Association of Medical Society Executives (AAMSE), membership societies for medical association management professionals. She served as a member of AAMSE’s 2015 Trends Task Force, and authored the article, “Recruiting and Engaging Early Career Physicians” which was published in the 2015 Trends Report.

Nicole has served on the Board of Directors of her local homeowner’s association, and was elected to the Board of Directors of Campton United Soccer Club, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in St. Charles, Illinois, in January 2016. Prior to that, she chaired the club’s Governance Committee, a committee on which she continues to participate in addition to overseeing club fundraising initiatives. She is also the Chairperson of the Component Relations Shared Interest Group of the Association Forum of Chicagoland (2017-2018) and served as Vice Chairperson from 2016-2017.

Nicole is married to Ray Blankenship and they have two daughters – Lauren (19) and Emma (16). In 2014, Nicole and her family earned their Black Belts in the Korean martial art of Kyuki-Do – a journey that took six years to complete. She enjoys reading, crocheting, and traveling with her daughters’ soccer and basketball teams when she is not traveling for the Academy.
