Data Privacy: Are You Ready for GDPR?

When:  May 14, 2018 from 09:00 to 11:30 (CT)

In collaboration with ASAE, Forum is hosting a session to prepare your association for the pending GDPR legislation.

As the amount of data in the world increases, our ability to build customer relationships with relevant, personalized interactions improves. While that sounds like a dream come true for associations, it’s also a virtual nightmare when it comes to protecting personal information.

The European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), a new, unified set of rules governing how personal information of EU residents must be managed, will take effect on May 25, 2018—marking the greatest change to data security and management in 20 years. Thousands of organizations with customers, vendors, and partners in Europe will need to ensure that the way they store, manage, and work with EU citizens’ personal data complies with GDPR, or face severe fines.

But what about U.S. associations with no direct business operations in the EU? If you have a web presence where you promote your programs and products, or if you collect personal data or behavioral information from EU residents, your association is subject to GDPR requirements. Moreover, there are indications that GDPR sets a precedent that non-EU countries may soon follow.

So, where does your association start? This workshop, conducted by leading industry experts, will help you learn:

  • What do you need to do first to comply with GDPR, and what are the next steps?
  • Is your association required to have a data protection officer?
  • What processes do you need in place to respond to requests to delete, amend, or provide copies of data?
  • Does your association have an incident response plan that meets GDPR requirements?
  • What are your organization’s data transfer mechanisms, and how can you ensure compliance across platforms and vendors?

Association Forum members may use the promo code "AFMAY99" to receive the ASAE member rate when registering.
