About The Presenters:
Kevin Whorton President, CEO, Whorton Marketing and Research  

Kevin Whorton is President of Whorton Marketing & Research a consulting firm that has worked with 325 associations over the past 12 years. He has 29 years of non-profit experience including serving as research director for National Association of Home Builders and American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, VP of Marketing for NACDS/ChainDrugStore.net, and head of fundraising for Catholic Relief Services.

As a volunteer, he served 18 terms on ASAE Councils and Committees, chaired its Membership Development Committee, and also served in officer roles for ASAE's Marketing Section Council and the Direct Marketing Association.

Kevin attended the University of Maryland PhD program for Economics on a Presidential Fellowship, completed his PhD coursework in Industrial Organization at George Mason University, and studied retail execution at the Kellogg School.

Peggy Hoffman, CAE, President, Mariner Management

Peggy is an active volunteer and volunteer manager who has done research on optimizing volunteerism in associations. She loves to swap ideas on all association topics; you can catch up with her on Twitter @peggyhoffman or on LinkedIn.

Since 2002, Peggy’s professional home has been Mariner Management, a company providing association management services to chapter and affiliate associations that she co-founded. Today, Mariner serves as the home to three organizations – one of which Peggy serves as executive director – while also working national and global
organizations seeking to strengthen their components and volunteer management programs.
From her earlier role as membership director for a trade association with components, Peggy developed a commitment to building strong communities within associations. To that end, she has been very involved in ASAE - The Center for Association Leadership and is past chair for both the Component Relations Section Council and the
Executive Management Council. A key project of the council was the “Rebuilding the Volunteer Spirit,” one of ASAE’s inaugural Innovation Projects, which explored how associations can adapt to and build on the changing volunteer. It was a catalyst for rethinking our governance and member engagement models.  This work led to co-authoring a white paper on “Mission Driven Volunteer” which looks at the new volunteer and how membership organizations are adapting. She and her team recently completed work for the ASAE Foundation on a groundbreaking study on Achieving Mutually Beneficial Volunteering Relationships for membership organizations. She also served on the original Decision To Volunteer research taskforce.
