Public Policy and Advocacy SIG: Continental Breakfast with Dan Kotowski, former Illinois State Senator and Life Long Advocate for Non-Profits
Dan Kotowski, former Illinois State Senator and current President and CEO of ChildServ, will provide a unique perspective of how associations can influence public policy. Having served nine years in the Illinois Senate and
many years in the association world, including his current leadership role for a nonprofit organization, Dan has insight from both sides of the fence. In this session we will have an opportunity to dialogue with Dan on what really
resonates when trying to influence the legislative process.
What makes legislators stop and take notice?
What makes legislators move an issue across the finish line?
What are some “DO NOT DO” tips for government affairs?
Dan Kotowski was an Illinois State Senator from January 2007 to October 2015. From 2011 to 2015 he represented the 28th district which includes all or parts of Arlington Heights, Bartlett, Bloomingdale, Des Plains, Elk Grove Village, Hanover Park, Hoffman Estates, Park Ridge, Roselle and Schaumburg. He previously represented the 33rd
district from 2007-2013 before the 2011 redistricting. In 2018 Governor Pritzker appointed Dan to the gubernatorial transition’s Healthy Children and Families Committee.
